Frottage is the technique of or process of putting a sheet of paper over an uneven surface and then rubbing a soft pencil across the paper. To show Frottage I chose to do a piece by artist Max Ernst. The picture is called “Page 71 in the book L'AntitĂȘte (Antihead) by Tristan Tzara, volume I: Monsieur AA l'Antiphilosophe (Paris: Bordas, 1949)” I chose this because I feel that the technique is interesting. In the picture I chose the lines are parallel and look like scratches. I am not sure what Max was drawing but the lines and color look really neat.

Pattern
Pattern is a repetitive motif or design Time and motion can be involved with pattern and in a work of art. To show pattern I showed a picture of work done by Alexander Calder. The sculpture is called "4 white rudders". I chose this because I read that Alexander's work is also kinetic art which means that his work appears to be moving. I found that really interesting. I like pattern art because the art often tells a story.
Local Color
Local color is the color of objects viewed up close, colors are normal in nature, however light and atmosphere may effect how the color changes. I used artist Claude Monet to show an example of Local color. The painting is called "Landscape: The Parc Monceau". I chose this painting because the effect of the light from the sun. The tree in the center with the pink flowers is my first example. If you view the tree closely the top right coroner appears to be grayish purple. Normally you would not see this from a tree. The lighting from the sun also effects the colors in the grass.
Arbitrary Color
Arbitrary Color is defined as the use of color that does not have realistic or natural relation to the object that is depicted, however the use of color may have an emotional or expressive significance. I chose to do a painting by artist Pierre Bonnard; the painting is called "Autumn, Fruit Harvest". A few things about the painting caught my attention. Firstly the free in the back is red and shadowed. All the other trees are colorful and fall like. Another things that caught my attention was the color of the people and horse carriage. The people are mostly white and barley noticed, yet the trees and plants are colorful and vibrant.
Chiaroscuro
Artist Paul Colin often uses a color method Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is defined as in drawing and painting, the use of light and dark to create the effect of three- dimensional, modeled surrfaces. The painting I used was a perfect fit of Chiaroscuro coloring. The painting is called "Maya. In 8 scenes by Simon Gantillon". What caught my attention was the transition of the woman shaded in black in white to color. I noticed the figure of the woman was getting more and more detailed. The use of color made the woman look three dimensional.
Hatching
As defined by the text book "hatching" is an area of closely spaced parallel lines, or hatches. The closer the spacing of the lines the darker the area. To show an example of hatching I choose to do a piece by Mary Cassatt. The piece is called the visitor and was created in 1881. I decided on this piece because of the use of lines that are throughout the picture. The woman's clothing is full of lines and when the clothing is closer to her face the lines get tighter therefore darker.
